When you hear the word “instruction” in the context of the church, you likely think of the pastor(s) or elder(s)—and rightly so (1 Tim 3:2; Titus 1:9; Col 1:28). However, Scripture also teaches that all believers are called to instruct one another (Rom 15:14; Col 3:16). God intends for the entire church to be engaged in the work of evangelism and discipleship. Every Christian is called to “speak the truth with his neighbor” (Eph 4:25) and to “exhort one another” regularly (Heb 3:13)—a task accomplished through intentional, interpersonal relationships (Matt 28:18-20).
Biblical counseling is a form of evangelism and discipleship that addresses the struggles people face. It starts by identifying an individual’s pains and problems, then applies God’s Word to guide them toward solutions—either leading them to salvation or helping them grow in sanctification. The Care & Counsel Class is designed to introduce you to the theology and practice of biblical counseling. You will explore topics such as the theological foundations of counseling, the biblical process of heart change, guilt, repentance, forgiveness, reconciliation, and the key elements of the counseling process.
If you find yourself offering advice to family or friends, this class is for you. Whether you’re a spouse, parent, sibling, Sunday school teacher, or ministry leader, you need to be equipped with God’s Word to provide wise, biblical counsel. If you desire to speak truth and encouragement into the lives of those around you, join us for this class and grow in your ability to care for others biblically!
Our goal is to introduce you to biblical counseling by equipping you with key theological insights and practical skills so that you can confidently counsel others. To build a strong foundation in counseling, we encourage you to commit to attending all 7 weeks (see schedule below).
To deepen your understanding of the biblical counseling process, we recommend reading How People Change by Timothy Lane and David Tripp. If, after completing the class, you desire to grow further in this ministry, we will provide opportunities for additional development and service.
